A stringed instrument

Of tuneless animal gut

Played by riven fingers

Without rhythm or ruth

Yet, beloved for its chorus

The “We, Us, Our,”

Which all together shout,

Dance, fingers locked,

Like furies about a fire,

Ever nearer the flames,

Delighted by the heat,

Our hair sizzling,

The senator, strums, strums, laughing.
